Yuri Departs SM Entertainment After 19 Years, Continues with Girls’ Generation

SM Entertainment announced on July 31 that it and K‑pop star Kwon Yuri have mutually agreed to conclude their exclusive contract, effective August 31, ending a 19‑year partnership that began with her debut in Girls’ Generation in 2007. The agency emphasized that Yuri will remain an active member of the group and that her participation in Girls’ Generation activities will continue unchanged.

The statement thanked fans for their support and praised Yuri’s contributions across music, acting, variety shows and hosting. This makes Yuri the fifth member of Girls’ Generation to leave SM Entertainment while staying with the group; the remaining members under SM are Taeyeon, Yoona and Hyoyeon, while Sunny, Tiffany, Sooyoung and Seohyun have previously moved to other agencies.
