Yuri Osaki assumes interim mayoralty of Antonina

Yuri Osaki, President of the Municipal Chamber, has assumed the interim mayoralty of Antonina, Paraná, following a decision by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). The court ordered the immediate removal of Mayor Rozane Osaki and Vice-Mayor Diogo Alves Machado after their mandates were annulled.

The TSE decision was based on irregularities identified during the 2024 elections, specifically regarding the implementation of the ‘Tarifa Zero’ public transport program. The Electoral Public Ministry argued that the free fare program was used as a tool for political abuse and prohibited conduct, as it was instituted near the election period without proper annual budgetary provisions and was used to promote the administration on social media.

While the defense argued that the program was part of a municipal plan dating back to 2023, the court upheld the ruling. Yuri Osaki will remain in office until supplementary elections are held, the date for which has not yet been determined. In his inaugural speech, Yuri Osaki stated he intends to maintain public services and focus on the city's needs without pursuing political retaliation.
