Yushau Shuaib to Appeal Dismissal of ₦1 Billion Lawsuit Against NIPSS

A Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a ₦1 billion claim filed by PRNigeria founder Yushau Shuaib against the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). Justice Binta Fatima Nyako ruled that the institute acted within its disciplinary authority after finding Shuaib had breached confidentiality rules during the Senior Executive Course (SEC 47) and had, by apologising on behalf of PRNigeria, effectively admitted wrongdoing. The judgment also held that Shuaib received a fair hearing and was bound by the oath of secrecy he took upon admission to the course.

Shuaib criticised the decision, asserting that it failed to separate his personal conduct from the editorial independence of PRNigeria and that his constitutional right to privacy was violated by alleged unlawful access to his private email. He seeks to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal. The original suit, filed on 7 July 2025, sought general, special and aggravated damages for emotional trauma and reputational injury, as well as ₦100 million in litigation costs, and raised eight constitutional questions concerning the institute's actions.
