Yusril Ihza Mahendra calls for innovation in education and stronger public safety measures

Indonesia’s Minister of Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, said that innovation, integrity and lifelong learning are essential for building a globally competitive Indonesian generation. Speaking at the Open University graduation ceremony, he emphasized that artificial intelligence is a tool, not a substitute for human ethics, critical thinking and cultural understanding.

Two days later, Yusril warned that the state’s inability to ensure public safety fuels vigilante actions. Citing recent mob attacks in Bali and Morowali that left suspects dead, he urged police to increase protection and announced a joint coordination meeting with the Ministry of Political and Security Affairs, law‑enforcement agencies and independent bodies such as Komnas HAM and the National Commission on Child Protection to address street crime and prevent human‑rights violations.
