Yusril Ihza Mahendra addresses book controversy and legal reforms

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, has addressed several legal and political issues. Regarding the book ‘Islam ala Prabowo’, Yusril clarified that he was merely a source interviewed by the authors and was not involved in the writing, conceptualization, or funding of the publication. He suggested that public controversy stems largely from the book's title rather than its content, which he maintains is academically accountable.

Yusril also addressed reports of Indonesian citizens serving as foreign soldiers in Russia. He stated that the government is currently verifying these claims, noting that initial information provided by Ukraine must be cross-referenced with Russian sources to ensure accuracy. He noted that while joining a foreign military can lead to the loss of citizenship, such revocation is not automatic.

On domestic legal matters, Yusril confirmed that the revision of the Military Justice Law is a legal mandate intended to synchronize the system with the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). Additionally, Deputy Coordinating Minister Otto Hasibuan emphasized the necessity of regional cooperation to combat transnational crime and highlighted the importance of implementing Indonesia's new Criminal Code.
