Yusuf Omari appointed CEO of Absa Bank Kenya
Absa Bank Kenya has officially appointed Yusuf Omari as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Omari, who has served as the interim CEO since July 1 following the departure of Abdi Mohamed, brings over two decades of leadership experience in finance, risk management, and strategy to the role.
Omari has a long history with the institution, having served as Chief Financial Officer since 2009 when the bank operated as Barclays Kenya. He has previously held the top position in an acting capacity on multiple occasions. Absa Chairman Mohammed Nyaoga stated that Omari’s deep understanding of the Kenyan market and track record with stakeholders position him to lead the bank into its next chapter.
The appointment follows the resignation of Abdi Mohamed, who left to pursue other career opportunities after a 32-year career with the bank. The transition comes as Absa focuses on profitable growth and increasing income from non-lending activities to compete with homegrown Kenyan banking rivals.
