Yusuf Tekin addresses teacher dress code regulations
Turkish National Education Minister Yusuf Tekin has addressed recent discussions regarding dress code regulations for teachers. He clarified that the measure is not a new regulation but rather a “reminder” of existing legislation governing the attire of civil servants.
Tekin emphasized that the objective is to ensure teachers maintain their professional reputation and serve as appropriate role models for students. He noted that in Turkish culture, teachers are viewed as societal leaders, and their appearance should reflect this status. To illustrate his point, he mentioned that wearing items such as t-shirts featuring foreign advertisements or flags could set a negative example for students.
Additionally, the Minister spoke regarding the development of Imam Hatip schools, stating that the Ministry aims to enhance the quality and diversity of these programs to make them models for other countries. He highlighted ongoing cooperation with academic circles, the Presidency of Religious Affairs, and various civil society organizations to advance this educational model.
