Yusuf Tekin announces construction of 600,000 classrooms in Turkey
Turkish National Education Minister Yusuf Tekin visited İzmir to attend the opening of the Bayburtlu Hasan Şentürk Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School and participate in the National Youth Climate Workshop.
During his visit, Tekin highlighted significant progress in educational infrastructure, stating that approximately 600,000 new classrooms have been constructed since 2002. He noted that while there were 350,000 classrooms in 2002, the total number has reached 750,000 today, despite losses from natural disasters. He also reported that the average number of students per classroom has decreased to the 20s, down from previous levels of 70-80 students.
In İzmir, Tekin announced that 120 schools have been completed in the last three years awaiting official openings and pledged to plan further investments in areas without zoning issues. Additionally, at the climate workshop, he emphasized the importance of environmental awareness within the ‘Turkey Century Education Model’, noting that students will represent the country at COP 31.
During the Erzurum Promotion Days, Tekin also addressed cultural identity, criticizing global structures that attempt to marginalize local values and calling for unity and respect for human rights to build a peaceful Turkey.
