Yusuf Tekin announces curriculum simplification following PISA 2025

Turkish Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin has addressed the PISA 2025 results in Bratislava, highlighting significant shifts in Turkey's educational strategy. Following the OECD findings, Tekin announced that the national curriculum has been simplified by 35 percent under the ‘Türkiye Yüzyılı Maarif Modeli’ to prevent learning loss caused by excessive information overload. He also stated that the ministry will take a firm stance against the imposition of supplementary resources, emphasizing that textbooks should be sufficient.

Addressing social challenges in education, Tekin identified parental interference as a critical issue. He noted that some parents attempt to ‘manage’ teachers rather than supporting their children's academic success through complementary home activities. To address this, the ministry has implemented the ‘3x3’ program, a nine-hour initiative designed to strengthen the school climate and provide proper guidance to parents. Tekin also noted a global trend of declining parental engagement, citing a decrease in basic communicative interactions between parents and children regarding school life.
