Yusuf Tekin announces talent-based education reforms in İzmir

Turkish National Education Minister Yusuf Tekin has announced significant reforms to the country's education system during a visit to İzmir. A central component of this vision is the expansion of the ‘Türkiye Yüzyılı Maarif Modeli’, which aims to move away from rote learning toward a system that integrates knowledge and practical skills.

Tekin emphasized the importance of talent-based education, stating that students should not be forced to master subjects like mathematics if they lack aptitude in that area. Instead, the ministry is increasing school diversity through thematic models. This includes expanding specialized schools for volleyball, basketball, swimming, and cycling, as well as establishing dedicated music primary, middle, and high schools.

During his visit, Tekin also met with local officials and attended a sailing course closing ceremony. He addressed the role of non-governmental organizations in supporting youth development and reiterated the government's commitment to raising the nation's 18 million children with both academic skills and national values.
