Yusufeli Dam contributes 15 billion TL to Turkish economy

The Yusufeli Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant (HES) on the Çoruh River in Artvin have contributed over 15 billion TL to the Turkish economy since they began electricity production in 2023. The facility, which stands 275 meters high and has a storage capacity of 2.13 billion cubic meters, is a critical infrastructure asset for energy and water management.

Reports indicate that the project faced a seven-year delay due to legal challenges from the Republican People's Party (CHP) and decisions by the Council of State. This delay is estimated to have cost the national economy approximately 50 billion TL in lost energy production and revenue.

The Yusufeli Dam alone accounts for roughly 3.5% of Turkey's hydroelectric capacity, while the broader Çoruh basin facilities represent about 10% of the country's total hydroelectric production. Since its commissioning, the dam has produced approximately 5.5 billion kWh of energy, contributing an estimated 6 billion TL annually to the economy.
