Yuta Nakayama joins Red Star Belgrade from FC Machida Zelvia
Japanese defender Yuta Nakayama has officially joined the Serbian champions, Red Star Belgrade, from FC Machida Zelvia. The 29-year-old signed a three-year contract with an option for a one-year extension and will wear the number 3 jersey.
Nakayama expressed his excitement about joining a club with such a rich history and his desire to compete in the UEFA Conference League. He stated his goal is to help the team win titles and eventually secure a spot in the Champions League.
FC Machida Zelvia Football Director Yasushi Hara revealed that the club had previously made a pact with Nakayama when he joined the team on a free transfer in August 2024. At that time, Nakayama requested that the club facilitate a move back to Europe if a suitable opportunity arose. While the club initially hesitated to let him go due to his importance to the squad and his potential for national team selection, they ultimately honored the agreement following an offer from Red Star Belgrade worth approximately 1.1 million euros.
