Yuzuru Hanyu and Yuzu debut collaboration at NHK music special in Sendai
Yuzuru Hanyu and the pop duo Yuzu performed together for the first time on August 15, 2026 during NHK’s "NHK Summer Music Festival Uta de Aetara 2026". The joint stage took place on the ice rink in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture – Hanyu’s hometown – and featured the song “幾重”, written by Yuzu’s vocalist Kitagawa Yūjin with a message that “everyone should overlap themselves”. The program marked the 15‑year anniversary of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, aiming to pass its memory to the next generation.
Hanyu said he listened to the song more than 500 times and created his own choreography for the performance. Yuzu commented that music and ice skating share the same expressive goal. The special was aired on NHK General and BSP4K, streamed simultaneously on NHK ONE, and offered a one‑week catch‑up service. Hosts were Daichi Oomori of Mrs. GREEN APPLE, actress Kitagawa Keiko and actor Ninomiya Kazunari.
