Yuzvendra Chahal discusses addiction recovery and World Cup selection

Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has shared personal insights regarding his mental health, addiction, and professional selection during a podcast interview with former cricketer Aakash Chopra.

Chahal revealed that he sought treatment at a rehabilitation center for 26 days following a period of excessive alcohol consumption triggered by his divorce. He noted that overcoming this addiction has improved his emotional maturity and physical fitness, stating that his body felt rejuvenated during the 2024 IPL season.

Addressing his professional career, Chahal discussed his exclusion from India’s 2023 World Cup squad. He stated that then-captain Rohit Sharma explained the decision was based on a strategic need for greater batting depth and an additional fast bowler. Chahal expressed that having this clarity helped him move past selection concerns, eventually leading to his inclusion in the 2024 T20 World Cup squad.
