Yvonne Domenge sculpture Cumela to be presented after restoration
The Mexican Secretariat of Culture and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) will present the restored sculpture ‘Cumela’ by Yvonne Domenge at the Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM) on Friday, October 9.
Created in 2005, the carbon steel sculpture functions as a fountain and draws inspiration from seeds in the state of Chiapas. Specialists from the National Center for the Conservation and Registration of Movable Artistic Heritage (CENCROPAM) performed restoration work during April and May to address corrosion, residue accumulation, and water system failures.
The event will also feature the presentation of the book ‘Yo, Domenge’ (2024), which provides a comprehensive portrait of the Mexican sculptor’s career. Participants in the presentation include art historian Raúl Rueda and Chantal Couttolenc from the Yvonne Domenge Studio.
