Żywiec County road modernization faces delays and surface deterioration
The modernization of a nearly 6-kilometer section of the county road connecting Węgierska Górka, Cisiec, and Milówka in Żywiec County has faced significant delays, causing frustration among local drivers. Since March, a 2.4-kilometer stretch has remained in a milled state, leading to an increase in potholes and uneven surfaces.
The project, valued at over 13.7 million PLN and supported by European Union funding, is officially scheduled for completion by July 2027. However, local officials and residents are concerned about the deteriorating road conditions and whether new asphalt will be laid before winter.
Jolanta Korczyk, director of the Powiatowy Zarząd Dróg in Żywiec, explained that complications arose due to a change in construction management and a request from the contractor to change the technology. The authorities are currently finalizing documentation to request a change in technology from the funding body, which would involve using stabilization instead of standard subgrade replacement.
