Żywiec officials raise alarms over traffic and summer smog
In Żywiec, local councilors Marian Kastelik and Jacek Seweryn have raised concerns regarding the environmental and health impacts of heavy vehicle traffic. The councilors submitted a formal request to the Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection in Warsaw, highlighting issues such as exhaust emissions, noise pollution, and the occurrence of summer smog.
Summer smog, or photochemical smog, is a phenomenon driven by chemical reactions between nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds under sunlight, resulting in ground-level ozone. This type of pollution poses significant health risks. In response, the District Road Authority has announced plans to conduct measurements and analyses to assess the scale of the problem on roads managed by various regional and national institutions.
