Zé Medeiros warns tax reform threatens Mato Grosso
Senator-elect Zé Medeiros (PL) has outlined his legislative priorities for Mato Grosso, focusing on tax reform and reducing state interference in the economy. Medeiros expressed concern that the current tax reform model, which relies heavily on consumption taxes, could disadvantage smaller municipalities and states with lower populations like Mato Grosso.
During a press conference in Cuiabá, Medeiros argued that the state needs to “get involved less” in economic activities to foster growth. He identified various administrative hurdles, such as specific ordinances and resolutions, as obstacles that hinder production and investment. He advocated for greater legal certainty and predictability to attract businesses to the region.
