Zé Renato named Honorary Citizen of Rio de Janeiro

Singer‑songwriter Zé Renato was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Rio de Janeiro by councilwoman Maíra do MST (PT) during the traditional Samba do Trabalhador event at Clube Renascença in Andaraí, Zona Norte. The municipal honor is granted to individuals who were not born in the city but have made significant contributions to its cultural life. Renato, whose career spans more than four decades and includes work with the vocal group Boca Livre, was praised for his influence on Brazilian popular music and his long‑standing connection to Rio. He thanked the councilwoman and highlighted the importance of supporting women’s rights and agrarian reform, while Maíra emphasized his role in representing popular culture across generations.
