Zac Howells, 12, saves mother after she faints while driving
A 12-year-old boy from Wales, Zac Howells, is being recognized for his actions after his mother, Nicola Crump, lost consciousness while driving on a highway. The pair were traveling from Wales toward Birmingham when Crump began feeling unwell and attempted to pull over.
After she lost consciousness, the vehicle's accelerator remained engaged, causing the car to accelerate back onto the fast road at approximately 60 mph. Zac took control of the steering wheel, standing up to see over the dashboard, and steered the vehicle into the highway median strip. He used the metal barrier to scrape the car to a halt.
Following the impact, Zac used the car's GPS to identify their location and contacted emergency services via 999. He remained on the line with dispatchers and comforted his mother as she regained consciousness. Paramedics determined that Crump had extremely low blood pressure, and she has since undergone medical evaluations.
