Zac Lomax signs three-year deal with PNG Chiefs ahead of 2028 NRL entry

Former State of Origin back Zac Lomax has agreed to a three‑year contract with the Papua New Guinea Chiefs, covering the 2028 to 2030 NRL seasons. The deal was confirmed as the Chiefs prepare to become the competition's 18th franchise, and Lomax will join the squad after completing his current Super Rugby Pacific stint with the Western Force and the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Lomax, who previously played over 130 NRL games for St George Illawarra and the Parramatta Eels, arrived in Port Moresby to meet Chiefs officials and was unveiled to fans alongside other marquee signings such as Jarome Luai, Alex Johnston and Connor Watson. He expressed enthusiasm for the move, saying it is a “privilege” and that the Chiefs aim to "shock the NRL". The signing follows a legal dispute with Parramatta over his player rights and adds to the Chiefs' aggressive recruitment drive targeting high‑profile cross‑code talent ahead of their inaugural season.
