Mexico prepares diverse cultural celebrations for Day of the Dead 2026

Various regions across Mexico are organizing extensive cultural programs for the 2026 Day of the Dead celebrations. In Mexico City, the Grand Day of the Dead Parade is scheduled for October 31, featuring floats and dances along the route from Diana Cazadora to the Zócalo. Additionally, the Colectivo Alebrijoso from Cuautla will provide monumental papier-mâché figures for events at CENART and Xochimilco.

In Querétaro, the state festival will run from October 23 to 31, featuring the Tolimán municipality as a guest, with activities including traditional workshops and parades. In Huixquilucan, the Fifth Catrina Festival will include Pan de Muerto festivities and Xantolo celebrations. The Xantolo tradition is also central to festivities in Tantoyuca and Huejutla de Reyes, where local communities will host music, gastronomy, and traditional dances.

Other regional highlights include Xcaret's Festival of Life and Death in Quintana Roo, which integrates cultural shows into park access, and the Mezcal and Cheese Festival in Cuernavaca. Local municipalities are also implementing maintenance and cleaning operations in public cemeteries to accommodate the expected influx of visitors.
