Zacatecas holds dialogue for National Day of Women with Disabilities

In Zacatecas, Mexico, the “Woman & Disability” dialogue table was held to commemorate the National Day of Women with Disabilities. The event aimed to highlight the leadership, realities, and challenges faced by women in this demographic.

Participants, including María del Patrocinio Rodríguez Márquez, Cynthia Navarro Patiño, and Joana Alejandra Méndez Ovalle, shared perspectives on equal opportunity, accessibility, non-discrimination, and human rights. Discussions emphasized that women with disabilities face aggravated discrimination due to the intersection of gender and disability, creating a double exclusion.

Miriam García, head of the Institute for the Attention and Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (Incluzac), stated that addressing these challenges requires multi-sector participation and public policies that reflect the specific needs of these women. The commemoration date, September 12, was established by the Mexican Senate in 2020 to honor the birth of Gabriela Brimmer, a prominent Mexican writer and activist.
