Vicente Fox meets PRI leader Alejandro Moreno to discuss opposition alliance
Former Mexican President Vicente Fox met with PRI leader Alejandro Moreno at the party's national headquarters to discuss the country's political future and the formation of an opposition bloc against the Morena party ahead of the 2027 elections. Fox, accompanied by members of the civil organization Alma de México, participated in discussions focused on defending democratic institutions, liberties, and strengthening political counterweights.
The meeting highlights efforts by the PRI to consolidate an alliance with other opposition forces, including the PAN. However, Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) has formally rejected the proposal for a unified front. MC Senator Clemente Castañeda stated the party will maintain its independent path, arguing that the PRI lacks the moral authority to lead such a coalition.
In response to the rejection, Alejandro Moreno criticized Movimiento Ciudadano, accusing them of fragmenting the opposition vote and effectively aiding Morena. The PRI has also launched media campaigns targeting MC, suggesting that the party's refusal to join an alliance serves the interests of the current administration.
