Zacatecas proposes mineral refinery and automotive plant
The government of Zacatecas has proposed two major industrial projects to Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, aimed at diversifying the state's economy and attracting capital. During the First Ordinary Session of the Zacatecas Investment Promotion Committee, state officials presented plans to establish a mineral concentration and refining center to add value to the local mining industry.
Additionally, the state proposed attracting a TIER 1 automotive plant to strengthen regional supply chains. Jorge Miranda Castro, the state Secretary of Economy, highlighted Zacatecas’s strategic location, industrial potential, and mining vocation as key competitive advantages. While the proposals were discussed as strategic possibilities, no specific investment amounts, timelines, or formal commitments were announced.
During the session, businesswoman Ana María Hinojosa was sworn in as the coordinator of the State Investment Promotion Council, tasked with linking the business sector with government authorities to promote new projects.
