Zacatecas prosecutor summons Fresnillo mayor over 10‑person homicide

State prosecutor Cristian Camacho Osnaya publicly ordered Fresnillo mayor Javier Torres Rodríguez to appear before the Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office to provide testimony on a multihomicide that left ten people dead over a weekend in April. The victims included two municipal officials and six business owners, and investigators have linked the crime to an extortion network centered in Fresnillo. As part of a parallel financial probe, nine of fourteen suspect banking accounts were frozen in coordination with the Financial Intelligence Unit.

Local business groups—including the Cámara de Comercio, Coparmex, Canacintra, Canirac and the Mexican Construction Industry Chamber—issued a joint statement urging state, municipal and federal authorities to investigate the killings with “full seriousness and respect for the rule of law,” and to identify and sanction those responsible.
