Zacatecas reports debt repayment and improved fiscal standing
During the CCCLXXI Meeting of the Permanent Commission of Fiscal Officials held in Zacatecas, Governor David Monreal Ávila reported significant improvements in the state's financial standing. The administration has implemented a ‘Zero Debt’ policy, allocating over 4.17 billion pesos toward long-term debt capital payments without contracting new loans during the current administration.
State revenues have seen a 113 percent increase compared to the previous administration, reaching 4.71 billion pesos. Additionally, Zacatecas recorded the highest growth in federal participations for 2026, receiving 11.82 billion pesos from January to September, a 2.7 percent increase over programmed amounts.
As a result of these fiscal measures and strengthened state income, credit rating agencies Fitch Ratings and HR Ratings upgraded Zacatecas' credit rating during 2026. The state has maintained a positive budget balance for five years, allowing for increased investment in infrastructure, security, education, and social programs.
