Zacatecas reports high water levels in eight major dams

Governor David Monreal Ávila announced that eight of the primary dams in Zacatecas, Mexico, have reached storage levels equal to or exceeding 99 percent of their capacity. According to monitoring from the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) and the State Civil Protection Coordination, the 14 dams included in the report collectively store 365,593 cubic hectometers.

Specific dams reporting levels above capacity include Lobatos and El Cazadero, both at 100.4 percent, and Julián Adame at 100.1 percent. Other high-capacity reservoirs include Santa Teresa, Santa Rosa, Palomas, Moraleños, and La Villita. The governor noted that the recent water harvest is expected to mitigate the effects of the El Niño phenomenon during the upcoming spring-summer agricultural cycle.

Despite these high levels in specific reservoirs, the total storage across the 14 monitored dams still represents a deficit of 88.29 cubic hectometers compared to their Maximum Ordinary Water Levels (NAMO).
