Zacch Adedeji faces scrutiny over revenue reforms and fund allegations
Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), is facing scrutiny following a television interview and allegations regarding the management of public funds. During an appearance on Channels Television’s ‘Sunday Politics’, Adedeji attempted to defend the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu. His comments regarding the President’s lifestyle, including claims that the President walks to his office and eats once a day, drew criticism for failing to adequately address the cost of governance during a difficult economic period.
Separately, the Arewa Think Tank has raised alarms over what it describes as a campaign to discredit Adedeji and undermine the Tinubu administration’s revenue reforms. The group responded to online reports alleging the unauthorized transfer of $279 million from the Frontier Exploration Fund to unnamed accounts. Adedeji has denied these claims, labeling them ‘pure fake news’ intended to tarnish his reputation. The Arewa Think Tank urged the public to exercise caution with social media reports and called for evidence-based scrutiny rather than character assassination.
