Zach Cregger to Direct Original Resident Evil Film with Full Creative Control

Director Zach Cregger is set to helm a new Resident Evil movie that will not adapt any existing Capcom game but will take place in the same universe. The story follows an ordinary medical courier named Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, who is thrust into a survival scenario near an Umbrella facility. Cregger describes Bryan as a blend of Marty McFly’s quick‑thinking, John McClane’s gritty improvisation, and Kevin McCallister’s resourceful trap‑setting.

Cregger was given "total freedom" and final‑cut authority by the studio, allowing him to pursue a twisted, unfiltered horror tone. Early footage suggests chaotic set‑pieces such as zombies falling from the sky onto moving cars and massive human‑shaped monsters lurking underground.
