Zach Cregger Unveils Independent Resident Evil Film for 2026 Release
At the San Diego Comic‑Con, director Zach Cregger said the upcoming Resident Evil movie will take liberties with the Capcom games, shifting the setting to 2026 instead of the 1990s and presenting an independent reboot that does not continue the storyline of previous films. He explained that the film aims to tell "my own horror story" while preserving the franchise’s spirit. The picture is slated to reach theaters on 18 September 2026.
The second trailer introduces Bryan, a medical courier sent to deliver an organ to a hospital in Raccoon City. Upon arrival he confronts a fast‑spreading infection, zombies and classic body‑horror elements. Cregger said the goal is to capture the tension, vulnerability and survival focus of the games rather than directly adapting any specific title.
