Zach Ertz returns to Philadelphia Eagles ahead of Week 3

Veteran tight end Zach Ertz has returned to the Philadelphia Eagles, joining the practice squad with the expectation of being elevated for the Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears.

Ertz’s return comes amid a significant injury crisis in the Eagles' tight end room. Starter Dallas Goedert is expected to miss multiple games due to a sprained MCL suffered in Week 2, while rookie Eli Stowers is on injured reserve. Ertz, who originally played for the franchise before being traded in 2021, expressed that returning to Philadelphia was a long-held wish.

Head coach Nick Sirianni noted that Ertz's availability for the upcoming game remains uncertain, stating that the team will evaluate his status through practice reps. The coaching staff intends to use the week to determine Ertz's specific role within the offense as they look to stabilize the position.
