Zach Lahn proposes state regulation for data centers and surveillance

Zach Lahn, the Republican nominee for Iowa governor in 2026, has proposed state-level regulations for emerging technologies, including data centers and Flock surveillance cameras. Speaking at an Iowa Association of Business and Industry forum, Lahn emphasized an “Iowa first” economic vision. He criticized the use of state tax incentives for multinational corporations, arguing that such subsidies often compete against homegrown Iowa businesses.

Lahn also addressed immigration and labor, advocating for restrictions on certain nonimmigrant U.S. work visas and calling for a ban on H-1B visa holders within Iowa state government and universities.

In addition to his policy stances, Lahn’s background has drawn scrutiny. Reports indicate he was a significant shareholder in FirmTech, a sexual health company that produces the TechRing, a medical device designed to track vascular and sexual health. Lahn has also faced criticism for his political rhetoric regarding “wokeism” and transgender rights.
