Taoyuan Cup 3x3 Basketball Tournament Launches with NBA Star Zach LaVine in Taiwan

The 10th Taoyuan Cup national 3‑on‑3 basketball tournament opened on 1 August in Taoyuan, Taiwan, with Mayor Zhang Shan‑zheng presiding over the ceremony alongside local officials. The competition runs until 23 August at multiple venues—including Zhuwei Fishing Port, Taoyuan High School, the Longtan I‑3 bridge site and National Central University—and has attracted more than 2,000 teams and roughly 8,000 participants. The event offers a total prize pool of NT$600,000 and is tied to the 2026 Taoyuan Pearl Coast International Music Festival, blending sport, music, tourism and cultural activities.

NBA star Zach LaVine arrived in Taiwan for the opening, meeting fans at Zhuwei Fishing Port and later taking part in a charity exchange at the Love‑in‑Taoyuan event in Daxi. He interacted with children from the Down Syndrome Foundation of Taiwan, signing memorabilia and promoting awareness. The tournament also features side attractions such as indigenous craft workshops, tech‑sport experiences and professional photo shoots for participants. Organisers aim to showcase Taoyuan as a “sports city” and boost the region’s coastal tourism through the combined sports‑music‑charity program.
