Zach LaVine opts into $49 million player option with Sacramento Kings

Zach LaVine has exercised a $49 million player option for the 2026-27 season with the Sacramento Kings. The decision allows the 31-year-old guard to secure significant compensation while heading into free agency next year when the league salary cap situation is expected to be more favorable.

For the Kings, the move maintains their offensive firepower but places heavy pressure on their payroll structure. LaVine joins a core that includes Domantas Sabonis and DeMar DeRozan. New head coach Doug Christie is expected to implement a system that utilizes LaVine as a secondary creator and off-ball scorer to better suit his current skill set.

Reports indicate that the Kings previously declined a trade offer that would have sent LaVine to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Trae Young. The decision to reject the swap was reportedly based on the organization's reluctance to commit to the long-term financial obligations of a major extension for Young.
