Zach Werenski reaffirms commitment to Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski has reaffirmed his commitment to the organization following a tumultuous offseason marked by trade speculation. Earlier this summer, Werenski utilized his no-movement clause to veto a proposed trade to the Dallas Stars that had been verbally agreed upon by both teams.
Werenski stated during the NHL Player Media Tour in Las Vegas that the recent rumors reassured him of his desire to remain in Columbus. He expressed a belief in the current roster and a goal to help the team end its Stanley Cup Playoff drought, which has lasted since 2020.
Despite his current commitment, trade interest remains a potential factor due to contract timing. Werenski is ineligible to sign a new contract with the Blue Jackets until July 1, 2027. While several teams, including the Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, and San Jose Sharks, previously showed interest, Werenski and General Manager Don Waddell have issued statements affirming their mutual commitment.
