Olympique de Marseille faces crisis and recruitment limits

Olympique de Marseille (OM) is facing a period of crisis, currently sitting 17th in Ligue 1 following a difficult start to the season marked by five consecutive defeats across all competitions. To address immediate squad needs and offensive shortages, coach Bruno Genesio has integrated youth players Milan Leccese and Antoine Valero into professional training sessions. Additionally, Tadjidine Mmadi has returned to the squad following international duty.

Club sporting director Grégory Lorenzi revealed that OM's recruitment capabilities were limited this summer due to critical financial constraints and restrictions. This prevented the club from finalizing several targets, including Swiss defender Zachary Athekame, who has since performed well at Olympique Lyonnais. Furthermore, player Martin Terrier clarified that despite discussions with Genesio, there were no concrete negotiations regarding a move to Marseille during the summer transfer window.
