Zack Snyder eyes Ben Affleck for ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ IMAX project

Director Zack Snyder is reportedly prepared to direct a live-action adaptation of Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ alongside Jay Oliva. The project is described as being built specifically for IMAX to align with industry pushes for large-format event cinema.

Snyder has expressed interest in casting Ben Affleck to reprise his role as Batman for the project. However, no official offers have been made due to ongoing legal complexities between Warner Bros. and Paramount. A 12-state lawsuit has resulted in an agreement where Warner Bros. will not finalize certain deals until a trial verdict is reached, which could extend as late as June 2027.

Insiders suggest the project is ready to proceed once the studio's corporate situation is resolved, potentially serving as a catalyst for a broader ‘SnyderVerse’ return.
