Zack Snyder reflects on DC tenure and creative differences

Director Zack Snyder has reflected on his tenure with the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and his creative approach compared to the Marvel formula. During the Toronto International Film Festival, where his new film ‘The Last Photograph’ received poor critical reception, Snyder discussed his preference for treating characters through mythology rather than the ‘amusement park’ style of action and humor often seen in Marvel productions.

Snyder expressed frustration regarding the studio system, noting that large-scale blockbuster filmmaking often treats movies as ‘products’ rather than visual and sonic poems. He indicated that his new independent project, ‘The Last Photograph’, represents a shift toward greater creative freedom and a departure from the high-budget superhero genre he previously led.
