Zack Snyder reflects on DCEU collapse and Warner Bros. regrets

Director Zack Snyder has reflected on the dissolution of his DC Extended Universe (DCEU), describing the period as a “low point” in his career. In a recent interview with Variety, Snyder revealed that a former Warner Bros. executive expressed regret over the studio’s decision to battle his creative vision, telling him, “You were right about everything.”

Snyder detailed the tensions surrounding the production of “Justice League,” noting that the studio attempted to use the tragic passing of his daughter as a “window” to take control of the film. This resulted in a version directed by Joss Whedon that featured extensive rewrites and tonal shifts. Snyder stated he has never seen the theatrical cut of that version, as his wife, Deborah Snyder, advised against it.

Regarding the future of the franchise, Snyder expressed interest in potentially working with the new leadership under the Paramount-Skydance deal, stating he would “love to have a conversation” with the Ellisons. While he has not yet watched James Gunn’s new DCU films, calling it “too personal” at this time, he noted that he has consulted with Gunn on certain elements, such as Superman’s costume design.
