Zadar announces infrastructure expansion and school funding

The City of Zadar has provided updates regarding two major local initiatives involving infrastructure and education.

Regarding urban development, Mayor Šime Erlić confirmed that the project to expand Krešimirova obala in Diklo is currently in the design and permitting phase. The extensive reconstruction will cover approximately 897.5 meters of coastline and is divided into four phases. The plan includes widening the roadway to six meters, constructing new sidewalks, improving drainage, installing public lighting, and creating green spaces. The project also features the construction of three parking lots and new coastal and retaining walls, which may require extending the corridor into the sea due to space constraints. The project is included in the city's 2026 procurement plan.

In the education sector, the city has secured over 1.56 million EUR to support extended after-school programs for the 2026/2027 school year. The program will serve 1,150 students across 46 groups in ten primary schools, representing an increase of three groups compared to the previous year. Additionally, the city is expanding early language learning programs for German and Italian across eight primary schools, providing two hours of instruction per week for students in the first three grades.
