Zadar celebrates feast of patron Saint Simeon

The city of Zadar is celebrating the feast day of its patron saint, St. Simeon. For the first time, Croatian Television (HRT) will provide a live broadcast of the solemn mass from the Church of St. Simeon at 11:00 AM. The service will be led by Zadar Archbishop Milan Zgrablić.

According to local tradition, the body of St. Simeon, a contemporary of Jesus, was brought from Palestine to Zadar in the 13th century. The Zadar Diocese emphasized the importance of the national broadcast to promote the city's unique religious and cultural heritage, noting that the saint's body is preserved in Zadar and is not held by any other diocese in the world.

Additional religious services are scheduled throughout the day, including a mass at 5:00 PM and a ceremony at 7:00 PM led by Bishop Petar Palić. The celebrations also include a procession with a statue of St. Simeon to mark the conclusion of the pilgrimage year.
