Zadar County public water supply declared health-compliant

Benito Pucar, director of the Zadar Institute of Public Health, has stated that the public water supply in Zadar County is health-compliant. His remarks were made during a session of the County Assembly to address public concerns regarding illegal waste disposal sites near water sources and rumors of contamination.

Between January 1 and September 11, 254 water tests were conducted across the county. While 15 samples showed microbiological deviations (including E. coli and enterococci) and 7 showed chemical deviations, Pucar emphasized that these individual findings do not necessarily indicate a systemic failure in the public supply.

He noted that samples are taken at the point of consumption, meaning issues often arise from internal building installations or storage methods. Specific incidents included a cafe in Preko where water from a private cistern was mixed with public water, and a case in Zadar where hydrocarbon traces were detected due to a contaminated sampling container rather than the water itself.
