Zadar named most expensive Croatian city in July

Zadar was identified as the most expensive city in Croatia during July, according to consumer basket data. The cost for a basic basket of groceries for a four-member family in Zadar County reached 498 euros.

Local residents and vendors report significant financial strain, noting rising prices for meat, fish, fruit, and vegetables. Market sellers have observed a decline in customer numbers as citizens become more cautious with their spending.

Economic experts suggest that the high costs are a byproduct of rapid economic growth in the region. Jurica Bosna, a professor at the University of Zadar, noted that when a region grows faster than optimal rates, inflation can become an inevitable consequence, even as wages and pensions struggle to keep pace.
