Zadar police detain four suspects amid Croatian wildfires

Croatian police have detained four individuals suspected of involvement in a series of recent wildfires in the Zadar region. Following a report of suspicious behavior near Benkovac on Saturday evening, authorities intercepted a suspicious vehicle and took the occupants into custody for criminal investigation.

While unofficial reports have circulated regarding the nationalities of the detainees, the Zadar Police Department has not yet released official identities or confirmed which specific fires the individuals are linked to. The investigation remains ongoing.

Simultaneously, firefighters are struggling to contain severe forest and brush fires across the region, exacerbated by drought and strong winds. On the island of Dugi Otok, approximately 100 firefighters and multiple vehicles are working to prevent the flames from reaching residential buildings and holiday homes scattered throughout the island's bays.
