Zadar proposes changing municipal housing rental rules
The City of Zadar has initiated a public consultation process regarding a draft decision to amend its housing rental policy. The proposed change, introduced by Mayor Šime Erlić, aims to address staffing shortages in critical local institutions, such as the General Hospital Zadar and the University of Zadar.
Under the previous regulation, mayors were limited to allocating only two municipal apartments per year to essential personnel. The new draft proposes replacing this fixed limit with a provision allowing for the allocation of apartments to individuals of special interest to the city ‘as needed throughout the year.’ The administration argues that securing housing is a vital prerequisite for attracting and retaining necessary medical and academic staff.
