Zadar to close Diklo landfill to all waste on November 1

Zadar Mayor Šime Erlić has announced the complete closure of the Diklo landfill to all waste, effective November 1. The decision follows the commencement of operations at the new Circular Economy Center (CGO).

After more than 60 years of use, the landfill will undergo full remediation. The project's technical documentation is being funded by the Environmental Protection Fund and the relevant Ministry. While all waste disposal will cease, the site will continue to function as a recycling yard, which will remain physically separated from the landfill area.

Deputy Mayor Ante Ćurković noted that much of the legal and property issues regarding the site have been resolved, and the environmental impact study is currently awaiting approval from the Ministry.
