Serbia allocates 225 million dinars for EXPO 2027 and National Stadium
The Serbian government has allocated 225 million dinars from the budget reserve to support the EXPO 2027 manifestation and the construction of the National Football Stadium. The funds are designated for the public enterprises Elektrodistribucija Srbije and Elektromreže Srbije to facilitate infrastructure needs for both projects.
In the first half of the year, the Serbian Ministry of Finance spent approximately 805 million dinars to support EXPO 2027. Regarding the National Football Stadium in Surčin, the Ministry plans to spend 21.2 billion dinars this year, with roughly 25 percent of the total budget utilized so far. Construction of the stadium is now expected to conclude in early 2028, missing the start of the EXPO 2027 exhibition.
Parallel to infrastructure spending, there is ongoing debate regarding the distribution of cultural funds in Serbia. Critics have raised concerns over the transparency and criteria used by the Ministry of Culture for project funding, noting that several prominent film festivals were denied support while other specific programs received significant allocations.
