Zagreb court delays Krešimir Gilji murder trial

The trial of Krešimir Gilji for the 1999 murder of Mirko Rimca in central Zagreb has been delayed at the Zagreb County Court. The defense requested the recusal of the prosecutor and the State Attorney General, citing previous instances where the current President of the Zagreb County Court had rejected defense requests for judge recusals.

The defense argues that the statute of limitations for the related injuries sustained during the shooting expired in 2021. They also noted that another individual, Domagoj Novak, has claimed responsibility for the fatal shot.

Prosecutors characterize the defense's actions as an abuse of procedural rights intended to evade justice. The absolute statute of limitations for the case is set to expire on October 9, leaving only 38 days to potentially conclude the proceedings.
