Three impostor police officers arrested in Zagreb for elderly fraud
Zagreb police completed a criminal investigation covering July 13‑17, identifying a trio – a 34‑year‑old man, a 38‑year‑old man and a 39‑year‑old woman – who pretended to be police officers to defraud senior citizens. They contacted victims by phone, claimed the women possessed counterfeit cash that needed to be verified, and used a fake police badge and coat to gain entry to homes. Two women, aged 85 and 81, handed over their life savings, causing an estimated loss of about €6,300. A third, a 74‑year‑old, became suspicious and avoided the scam.
Police acted on multiple citizen reports, located the suspects as they fled the 74‑year‑old’s yard in Maksimir, and stopped their vehicle on Bukovačka road. All three were arrested, placed in custody and charged with fraud. The investigation noted that the 34‑ and 38‑year‑olds had earlier fraud convictions. The case was forwarded to the municipal criminal prosecution office.
